DH Country Music

There's new music in the player on the homepage again, and this time it comes from Brinn Black and it's a track titled Sweet Virginia Sunset. She's looking for honest feedback so let's hear it!

My thoughts? An overall sweet voice, but not a lot of depth. This girl would do well spending a few weeks at a blues workshop to really find her inner-crooner. The song itself is a bit messy... instrumentally there's a lot going on in what could have been a very nostalgic ballad. Lyrically there are lines that are dangerously similar to Strawberry Wine from Deanna Carter, but we've all had a moment of "inspired creativity" haven't we?

In short, give her a year or two, maybe some time on the road, and a good ol' fashioned heartbreak and she might do alright.

Your thoughts?

I popped over to her site (http://www.bunksmuzak.com/brinnblack/media.html) and listened to her other tracks... You're right, sweet voice. But it seems like she's holding back. I wonder if she's so reserved live? It's almost a Leann Rimes sorta thing where her CD's are pitch-perfect and tamed for top40 radio, but live she's a surprising powerhouse. I hope this girl finds the confidence to let her voice run away with her a time or two.

Definitely something I could listen to. Thanks a lot for the recommendation.
